Everybody that’s anybody is selecting their Springbok World Cup Squad ahead of Heyneke Meyer’s unveiling of the 31 blokes who get free tickets to rugby’s greatest tournament. Here goes mine…Injuries will play a role. I have my doubts that Marcel Coetzee is going to be fit so I’ve counted him out. I’m presuming everyone else is fit and ready to roll including Captain Hopalong. I’m not sure if 9 players of colour is good enough for Cosatu but it is good enough for me based on the available talent.

Now fat's a squad I could work wiff

Props (5): Beast Mtawarira, Trevor Nyakane, Jannie du Plessis, Frans Malherbe, Steven Kitshoff

Coenie has spent too much time on the sidelines and Kitshoff is the future at loosehead.

Hookers (3): Bismarck du Plessis, Adriaan Strauss, Scarra Ntubeni

Schalk Brits is all flash and not what is needed at a RWC. Ntubeni has a future and is an excellent scrumager so let him play.

Locks (4): Eben Etzebeth,Victor Matfield (vice-captain), Pieter-Steph du Toit, Lood De Jager

PSDT covers the role of big ball carrying flank who is a real lineout option.

Loose Forwards (5): Francois Louw, Willem Alberts, Duane Vermeulen, Schalk Burger, Siya Kolisi

With PSDT in the squad, Oupa Mohoje misses out as they fulfill the same role. Kolisi provides something different whilst Brussouw is unlucky. Marcel Coetzee was not considered as I think he won’t recover in time. Pity.

Scrumhalves (3): Fourie du Preez, Ruan Pienaar, Rudy Paige

Fourie Du Preez is going to need all the game time he can get in the pool games, hence the 3rd choice scrumhalf is unlikely to feature much. Considering the pressure on Meyer from the politicians, Paige cracks the nod ahead of Reinach.

Flyhalves (3): Patrick Lambie, Handre Pollard, Morne Steyn

Whilst very tempting to leave Morne Steyn at home, his suprerior goal kicking ability means he’s a good option up North.

Centres (4): Jean de Villiers (captain), Damien de Allende, Jesse Kriel, Frans Steyn

With an injury cloud over our captain, Frans Steyn provides an experienced option with huge versitility and a goal kicking option.

Wings (3): Bryan Habana, JP Pietersen, Lwazi Mvovo

Willie Le Roux provides cover for wing if needed.

Fullbacks (1): Willie le Roux

Lwazi Mvovo, Jesse Kriel, Pat Lambie and Frans Steyn provide ample cover at 15.
