The SupeRugby season for 2014 is well under way and the South African contingent have dusted off their jockstraps and shoulder pads and hit the fields. After 2 weeks it is fairly plain to see the forerunners at this stage from a South African perspective are the Lions and Sharks. We must of course remember that just like the porn industry, SupeRugby doesn’t always reward those who come out the blocks the fastest…

Flying over Kings Park on Saturday...

Early warning…

There is still some debate in Durban whether the bye weekend is too early in the season. Some Sharks fans have hinted that this weekend’s bye will perhaps be a little more strenuous than the hit out against the Bulls. Jake White has clearly pulled together a motivated mob in Durban and Francois Steyn looks like just the foil young Patrick Lambie needs. What a combination.

The Lions have been the surprise package and if they can ensure that their opponents keep playing ‘disgusting’ rugby they may rack up a few more wins against unlikely opposition. A couple of injuries will hurt them though as most female WWE stars have more depth.

The Cheetahs will be hoping that their first SupeRugby win over the Bulls gets them back on track. I must say though I don’t see them matching their heroics of last season.

The least said about the Stormers and the Bulls the better. As Phillip Schutte used to say “there’s no point going ugly this early in the season”. This weekend should provide an opportunity for the Stormers to make some sort of amends against Hurricanes. That said with their lack of attacking game plan they may be farting against, well a Hurricane.
